And so finally, and appropriately, on St Georges Day this year (she was in St George’s house at School), I imagine that Mum rose early, as she always did, put on her blue quilted jacket, a headscarf and the immaculately polished blue shoes. She set off briskly, a small determined figure, not on this occasion round the farm or through the village but along the road which leads to Heaven. She didn’t look back, but hurried on until out of our sight and there she will have been greeted by Dad who has been waiting for her for the last 12 years.
